LEGO UFO abduction toy

The description right on the box says: UFO Abduction

Pop culture is saturated with the UFO ABDUCTION meme, much of it directed at the kiddies. LEGO features a whole line of products called ALIEN CONQUEST. The folks at project Bluebook are earning their salaries.

A few years ago there were some videogames released for the old Xbox console titled Destroy All Humans. They were choke-full with all kind of pop-culture references to the alien abduction mythos. Also a lot of Easter eggs, like the chance of watching Plan 9 from Outer Space in one of the towns drive-ins.

And they were really entertaining too ;)

I just added another LABEL to this on-going blog.

*POP CULTURE*

This is something that fascinates me, how the UFO meme is seeping into the collective ubber-mind.

It seems to me to be a process of cross-fertilization, whereby the UFO phenomenon, whatever it was/is, drew its frames of reference and iconography from popular/pulp culture, and then pop/pulp culture began in turn to draw from the UFO phenomenon. It's an intriguing feedback loop of sorts.

Also,I was at Whitley Strieber's blog and read this post;
Christmas 2011

http://www.unknowncountry.com/journal/christmas-2011

Where he writes,"I sit listening to Rachmaninoff's Vocalise sung by Anna Moffo, which I would listen to on nights when I felt that the visitors were coming. They would cast such a spell over me on those nights, with their strangeness and their longing. They seemed far from home, but not physically; rather, from a home that is deep in the heart. They were seekers, looking for something they had lost, which was why, after my initial disquiet, I felt such a closeness to them."

This is a very beautiful piece of music.I love it,but I have never heard it before.

You'll have to have a listen to this music and let us know what you think about it,Mike.

Cheers.

@ Daz: it just so happens that I rented Paul yesterday, before I read your comment.

I loved every minute of it. Every little detail, like Paul's addiction to cigarettes, makes me wonder whether the producers are hardcore UFO fans, or it was just a wonderful 'coincidence' ;)

@RPJ:
I had a few major syncs while seeing this movie.I wrote about them on my blog in a post called,
"But Dylan’s Not Dead” ”Oh...Isn’t He?"

http://brizdazz.blogspot.com/2011/04/but-dylans-not-dead-ohisnt-he.html

I had just been standing right in front of Dylan less than 24 hours before,and the singer before him was an Aboriginal singer born blind from birth and had eyes like the girl's bad eye which is cured by Paul later in the movie.
So it was a surreal experience for me watching this movie.

The healing trick performed by Paul was very interesting. I don't know if the producers were aware of it, but that's exactly what a shaman does when curing an illness: 'transfering' the disease or ailment from the sick patient to his or her own body. That's what Rasputin allegedly did when he cured the youngest son of Tzar Nicholas II of leukemia.

PS: Thanks for that link to Gurrumul's song, mate :)
