Christopher Knowles saw a UFO from his porch

click on the image for a high rez-view
And I have to say that this object—whatever it was—deeply unsettled me. I can't really call it fear, something much more complex and layered than that. More like a deep sense of dislocation.
Christopher Knowles, the man behind The Secret Sun, saw a UFO from his porch just a few nights ago. This was not a little dot in the sky, this was a very large structured craft making eerie movements in the New Jersey sky. He writes about the experience HERE.

do you see an owl?

The source book for loads of Disney weirdness
Do you see an owl in the book cover above? I am at the point where I am seeing owls everywhere, and I fully realize that my frenetic obsessive examination is causing this, owls emerging out of the ether.

Grimm's Fairy Tales was first published in 1812 by the German Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. These stories include Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Snow White.

I saw a small low resolution image of the book (left), and to me it was clearly a stylized owl. It is so obvious in the tiny jPeg that I have to wonder if the artist from way-back-when was trying to create an owl for the cover. This tiny image was posted so small that you could just barely make out the title. I noted the little icon in a Secret Sun blog post from 2012, where Christopher Knowles points out the similarities of his own script idea and the 2011 movie Hanna. Both are an updated version of Snow White. The blog post is linked HERE.

Also, I noticed this foggy owl image on the Secret Sun just moments after sending an email to a researcher in Germany, the source of these stories. After that I had the thought "I wonder if there is a new post on Secret Sun?" When I clicked on it, I realized it had been posted less than two minutes earlier.

In the 1812 edition of the book there is an exceedingly strange story simply titled The Owl. It's short and worth reading (available as a PDF file HERE). Basically, a honed owl is portrayed as a terrible monster, striking paralyzing fear even to the bravest men in the town. A simplistic example of the owl as something horrible in folklore.

excerpt from The Owl
By some mischance one of the great owls, called horned owls, had come from the neighboring woods into the barn of one of the townsfolk in the night-time...

In the morning when the manservant went into the barn to fetch some straw, he was so mightily alarmed at the sight of the owl sitting there in a corner, that he ran away and announced to his master that a monster, the like of which he had never set eyes on in his life, and which could devour a man without the slightest difficulty, was sitting in the barn, rolling its eyes about in its head.

I just got a helpful message from a reader (C.M. Mayo) who pointed out that there is also an old edition of Little Women with the same cover. To me, this means that the cover for the Grimm's book was just some template used by some long ago publisher and NOT any kind of owl reference related to the story within the book.

This Art Neuvo cover was created by book designer Talwin Morris for a series known as Blackie Books out of Glasgow Scotland.

Did You Hear? UFOlogy is Dying. Again.

Christopher Knowles posted an article in The Secret Sun, in response to another article declaring (yet again) the death of ufology. He writes:

New York Magazine spends the slow weeks of midsummer declaring "The End of UFOs!" The title is a major misnomer, as the article in question is actually about the latest death of UFOlogy (or UFOOLogy, as it's alternately known). UFOlogy has died so many times I've lost count... __

The New York piece makes this very important observation:
None of this, however, was a reason to close the books on flying saucers. This would be impossible, since if you happened to have laid eyes on something you sincerely believed to be a UFO, it tends to stick.

I will never be free of that cold winter’s night in 1989 when, along with my wife, I saw a saucer-shaped object fly down the East River and soar beneath the Brooklyn Bridge. The way the craft seemed to coquettishly blink its lights as if to say, "even here, I appear, and then disappear" told me, that against all rationality, this particular interface with the ineffable was meant for me.

Hangar 18 and predictive weirdness

the final film of the 1970's

I just watched the 1980 movie Hangar 18. It's a cheesy reworking of the Roswell story where the Air Force gets a hold of a crashed flying saucer. This movie was recommended by Christopher Knowles through a series of posts in THE SECRET SUN where he digs into this odd little film. These essays are required reading, linked below:
~ An in depth review of Hangar 18
~ Gary Collins, the star of Hangar 18
I was fascinated by what Knowles had to say, but I want to add a few more thoughts.

Hangar 18 was released in 1980, and this was a decisive year for the mythos of crashed UFOs. Even though the supposed event near Roswell New Mexico took place in 1947, it was effectively unknown to the public until it re-emerged in 1980. In February that year, The National Enquirer ran an interview with Jesse Marcel, a key witness who claimed to handle some of the wreckage. This introduced the Roswell incident to the world.

Researcher Terry Hansen states that a former CIA psychological warfare agent created the National Enquirer as a way to discredit UFO reporting.

The first book on the subject, The Roswell Incident by Charles Berlitz and William Moore was published in 1980.

1980 was the same year that IN SEARCH OF (a television series hosted by Lenard Nimoy) aired an episode titled UFO Cover-Ups. This examines charges that the Air Force is hiding alien corpses and the remains of crashed space craft in Hangar 18 at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio.

On one level, Hangar 18 is a buddy film where two astronauts work together to try to unravel a mystery, echoing both 2001 and I Dream of Jeanne.

The parallel plot line features a crew of scientists, under the direction of Darren McGavin (Kolchak: The Night Stalker). They are in charge of researching the crashed UFO. They examine the dead pilots of the crashed UFO only to find that they are essentially human. They also decipher documents on board the mysterious ship, and they come to the conclusion that these UFO occupants made an appearance here on earth at the dawn of human history. These aliens were seen as Gods, they interbred with human women and they orchestrated the evolutionary leap that created modern humans. And, these former Gods were about to come back in a mass world wide landing.
(There is a transcription of Darren McGavin's histrionic monologue where he shares the secret history of the aliens, it's at the bottom of this post)
So, there you have all the key plot points at the core of the Ancient Astronaut Theory (AAT). These same ideas were at the core of Erich von Däniken's CHARIOTS OF THE GODS. This immensely popular book was first published in 1968, the same year as 2001: A Space Odyssey as well as Planet of the Apes. These two sci-fi films explore the AAT and the evolutionary leap that created modern humans.

This parallels a secret Air Force report seen in 1983 by reporter Linda Moulton Howe, more on that below.

Spoiler alert:
The film Hangar 18 culminates with government officials at the highest levels making the decision  to destroy all the evidence of their cover-up. They have their underlings fill a jet plane with explosives and then fly that plane using remote controlled "joystick" technology right into Hangar 18. These same plot points are at the heart of the darkest conspiracies from the events of 9-11.

A remote controlled plane flying into a building? This concept was seen again in the pilot episode of The Lone Gunman, a spin-off from The X-Files. This episode was aired on March 4th 2001, just months before the actually events on September 11th. Christopher Knowles explores the what might be the source of this extremely weird predictive programming in an excellent essay on The Secret Sun, linked HERE. Let me add that this was posted on my 50th birthday.

This movie started it all, in 1970.

Reporter Linda Moulton Howe had a very strange experience in 1983. It seems she was allowed to read a super secret Air Force report while in preparation for a documentary on UFOs.

The document that Howe saw could very well have been written by Darren McGavin from what he learned in the movie Hangar 18. Here is a link to a good article on what happened to Howe and what she saw in that report.

This Air Force document
included a long list of UFO weirdness:
~ Two different retrievals near the region of Roswell, NM, one in 1947 and another in 1949. The second crash resulted in the captures of a live Extraterrestrial that was taken by an Air Force officer to Los Alamos National Laboratories. The document said that the creature communicated telepathically and was held captive until 1952 when it died of unknown causes.
~ Other crashes listed were Kingman, AZ, Aztec, NM, Loredo, TX, and a place in Mexico just south of the border.

~ Extraterrestrials had manipulated DNA in an already evolving primate species to create Homosapiens.

~ Another paragraph went on to state that 2000 years ago the Extraterrestrials had created a being to put on this planet to teach homosapiens about love and non-violence. When Howe read this she said out loud “Are we talking about Jesus Christ?” Howe say that Air Force representative (Sgt. Richard Doty) in the room with her did not say a word, but that he turned red.
~ A secret project code-named Garnet was listed as having answered all questions and mysteries about the evolution of Homosapiens on this planet. (Curiously, Garnet is Linda Moulton Howe's birthstone)
~ Another issue was that Howe was told that she could use film footage from the vaults of the Air Force that was "Extraterrestrial related." This footage would be featured in the documentary she was producing. The chance to feature this elusive footage got the executives at HBO excited, but at the last moment the Air Force reneged on it's offer, and the entire documentary project fizzled. Howe believes that this was a tactic by the Air Force to stop her documentary from being made.
So, we have a reporter being shown a secret document by the Air Force in 1983, the conclusion is that they wanted this information floated out to the public. Three years earlier we have the movie Hangar 18 "floating" out the same information in the guise of an action film. Please note that Hangar 18 had the blessing an cooperation of NASA, and this is odd because this low budget movie is sort of dopey and it certainly paints NASA and the Air Force as a sinister bunch of secret keepers.

Now, I trust that Howe actually read this a document exactly as she claims. The real question would be if the information within the document is actually true. Researchers who study disinformation will state that in order for it to be effective it needs to be interspersed within REAL information.

Here is an article by Alejandro Rojas where he writes about Linda Moulton Howes' experience with the Air Force in 1983, and here's an audio interview with Howe on the same subject.

I know of two other similar stories where the Air Force promised exclusive film footage of UFOs to documentary film makers, only to withdraw it's offer in the final moments of the production. One offer went to Walt Disney in 1952. The other was Bob Emenegger, who's film credits include the music for Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp (again, the chimpanzee as a "Link" in human evolution).
~ Article by Robbie Graham on Walt Disney and his aborted UFO documentary.

The speech about ancient aliens
worshiped as gods

There is a very odd sermon-like monologue within the movie HANGAR 18. It feels less like a scriptwriter's imagination and more like it was planted in there by someone with an agenda. Below is a transcription of this heavy-handed bit of this dialog, delivered by the every-hammy Darren McGavin. Note how this paralles into the document that Linda Moulton Howe was shown in 1983. The time count matches the youtube video at the top of this post.

[start time 1: 06: 20]

Darren McGavin as Harry Forbes enters the conference room with a manilla folder filled with papers. Serious looking assistants are seared around the table.

Darren McGavin: Council has deciphered the alien's language. This is a translation of a document found aboard the space craft. Now the translation is very rough and it's incomplete but if what we can read is true, and there's no reason to doubt that it isn't. Then all of the previous information that we have had about the origin of mankind and the human race is absolutely false!

Man: What are you talking about here?

Darren McGavin: This is a report of a previous visit of the spacemen to earth. This report speaks of the capture the training and the use of certain "animals" as slaves, both male and female, the slave worshipped them as gods,

Man: Then what they refer to as "animals" were pre-humans?

Darren McGavin: Yes. The report also speaks to the fact that the female slaves found it a great honor to be chosen to live with and to bear the offspring of the gods.

Woman: Good Lord.

Darren McGavin: You see, it's no coincidence that the spacemen are almost identical to us. It is not, Sarah, a cace of two species developing - evolving - independently of each other. Those ancient spacemen altered forever our evolution. They are the missing link.

Scientist in lab coat: Do you know what you are saying?

Darren McGavin: Yes. We, mankind, the human race, are their children!

(dramatic pause, music rises, thoughtful expressions)

What me must find out now is why they are monitoring us, why they are watching us.

THE SECRET SUN audio podcast features me in conversation with Chris Knowles

Christopher Knowles from THE SECRET SUN has an audio interview with me on his podcast series. We speak for over an hour, and the conversation digs into my first hand experiences and the overlapping phenomena that seems intertwined. I've been interviewed before, and this was a really a really good session.

Chris is a deep thinker who is wrestling with the big questions, and he forces me to dig deeper than anyone else. I always get a lot from talking with this guy, and I'm sure you'll feel the same. I am challenged by the implications of my experiences, it just plain freaks me out. But, Chris is capable of tying in an overriding visionary aspect to this mystery. It really helps me when he forces me to re-frame this quandary from this higher reference point. I'm better able to grapple with my own deep questions with Christopher's insights.

We talk about a series of curious life events, including:

I speak about a lot of stuff that I've shared in this blog, each of these essays have photos and illustrations that might help the listener. And each of these posts are loaded with links to other equally relevant stories and images.

Jack Kirby and personal memories

Click on either image for a HI-rez view.

On the first day of spring I found that Christopher Knowles posted something that seemed odd to me. The SECRET SUN featured a series of Jack Kirby frames from Captian America comic books. These images were curiously similar to something I saw with a boyhood friend out a window in 1974. I was probably 11 years old at the time, and it still remains unexplained.

Jack Kirby was a driving force in comic book illustrations and super-hero themes. Christopher Knowles has worked tirelessly to peer into Kirby's mythic powers.

The number 74 as 1974?

This was listed on The Secret Sun site as the number of posts about Jack Kirby. I realized this when I linked to to his site. The number 74 seems particularly resonant.

follow-up info from the Rosemary Ellen Guiley interview

I am adding this post as a compendium to the audio interview with Rosemary Ellen Guiley. We touched on a LOT of divergent subjects, and it felt important to include some visuals and extra info as a follow-up to that interview.

Shadow People from the creative pen of Jack Kirby. This image was forwarded to me from Christoph Knowles of THE SECRET SUN. Mr. Knowles has made quite a case that Kirby was a kind of modern mystic and foretold deep truths within the pages of his comics. Click HERE and be prepared to have you mind re-wired.

The pulp crime fighting anti-hero, THE SHADOW has a costume and linage that matches the Shadow People, as well as The Djinn.

He is a practitioner of an ancient form of ritual magic from the orient. He has psychic powers that cast a shadow in the mind of people - and he can hide in plane sight because of it. His super hero power is terrorizing his foe. His costume was a long draping cape like coat and a over-sized fedora. I am amazed at how closely this matched the shadow lore.

Christophe Knowles points out that creator of The Shadow, Walter Gibson, was deeply immersed in mysticism and the occult. This is covered in the book: Our Gods Wear Spandex.

Robert Monroe, of THE MONROE INSTITUTE produced the early radio shows of THE SHADOW. Monroe explored the edge of human consciousness, and wrote the book Journeys Out of the Body. (this from Jeffery Kripal's book MUTANTS AN MYSTICS)

This video is a first person encounter with a Faery. This is curiously similar to the description given by Rosemary during our interview. The woman in the video says it had "wings that looked like autumn leaves." Please note, she was also thinking about faeries right before having her sighting. This was also one of the things Rosemary and I discussed together.

Max Ernst, ritual magic and UFOs

Overt UFO image from Max Ernst in 1929

The artist Max Ernst (1891-1976), was a prolific German Dadaist-Surrealist. And he seems to be much more. The image (above) is from a collage-based graphic novel titled The Hundred Headless Woman. It has two disc shaped UFOs, a nearly naked woman being abducted and an apocalyptic scene of destruction; all reoccurring themes in the modern abduction lore. This was 18 years before Kenneth Arnold saw his [first] set of UFOs.

Christopher Knowles has posted a genuinely ground breaking post about Max Ernst (linked HERE). I found it this morning in The Secret Sun. Knowles writes:

...every time I look at UFO photos and read about recent sightings or abductions I get trapped in the letters and the pixels like I'm encased in amber. When I start to look at UFOs through the prism of Synchronicity, Symbol and Strangeness, it all opens like a flower and thousands of puzzle pieces start falling into place like a Tetris game played by an invisible hand.

And then things start to happen. In this consensus space-time. Lots of things. Lots of really strange, sometimes impossible things.

classic images from a long gone era

Caricature of Dr. J. Allen Hyneck in classic comic book style.

This image is from an amazing series of comic books succinctly titled UFO FLYING SAUCERS. The content is nothing more than the key cases from the UFO literature, with each incident rendered out in a short sequence of traditional illustrated frames. The series began in 1968 (the year of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY) and ended in 1977 (the year of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND).

There is something beautiful to the work-a-day craftsmanship of these comic books. Looking at these pages, it saddens me that there ain't really nuthin' new to the way we look at the overall story. No answers, just unanswered questions. Huge thanks to Christopher Knowles at THE SECRET SUN for turning me on to these quintessential images from a long gone era.

Oh how Mac Tonnies would have LOVED these classic images. As a kid, I desperately wanted to draw stuff just like this!

audio conversation with Christopher Knowles

My first audio interview was posted over a year ago, and it featured the insights of Christopher Knowles. Now he's back and we go at it for almost two hours. This guy has an amazing blog with tons of cool ideas, but he also has a very real gift as a conversationalist.

The core topic of our dialogue is the blurring of UFOs and pop culture. We also explore the strange murmurings from the grand power structure and how it seems to be reflecting an anxiety directly related to some impending event. Both of us try and wrap our minds around some real-deal concepts at the edge of these already edgy ideas.

From there we branch off to talk about the immense power of the creative process, the new age movement, the great Jack Kirby, the News that Churchill quashed a UFO report, Gene Roddenberry, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The New Age movement, The Da Vinci Code, Whitley Streiber and the cover of Communion, resonance, the Vatican and extraterrestrials, The Royal Society ET summit, Behold a Pale Horse, the total collapse of trust in the news media, Stephen Hawking, The Brookings Institute UFO report, Jules Verne, Jacques Vallee, the real threat alien possibility poses to the status quo, the constant drumbeat of space news and cosmic awareness, digital photography and the recent sightings epidemic, universal creation myths of sky gods, the Ancient Astronaut Theory and the religious right, the power of stories and much, much, much more.

Here is Chris, photographed with the nefarious (and Canadian) cigarette smoking man. The curious blurring is obviously due to electromagnetic interference from a parallel dimension.

I strongly implore you to listen to the podcast from last summer (click HERE). And, please check-out Chris Knowles' excellent blog, The Secret Sun. And his cool book too: OUR GODS WEAR SPANDEX.

Chris Knowles conversation

Modern mythology, alternate history and pop-cult symbology.

This post has a MP3 audio file. This is NOT a podcast, and I am NOT a podcaster. I just recorded this conversation and I figured I would transcribe a few questions. We ended up talking for two-hours. At the end, I thought the discussion was interesting, and relevant. So, you get the whole thing.

two hours / recorded July 3rd 2009
_________________________________________

Christopher Knowles writes an amazing blog, THE SECRET SUN where he investigates the profound themes that are emerging in our popular culture. He has a really compelling take on the (not-so-subtle) subconscious goings-on within the soup of our modern culture. I referenced his blog on my site before. I gotta say, I'm kind of addicted to his site, and I really scrutinize his writings, and sometimes there is stuff he unravels that just has the ring of truth.

Chris is the author of OUR GODS WEAR SPANDEX: The Secret History of Comic Book Heroes, a really insightful book about the parallels between ancient mythologies and modern comic books.

Also the co-author of The Complete X-Files: Behind the Series, the Myths, and the Movies, published by Insight Editions.

I started with 3 simple questions. I figured we would just answer these, I’d say thanks and I transcribe them and post them as text. Well, the conversation ended up being almost two hours long. I’ve included what I had written down to ask.

Questions for Chris:
1. I’ve read a bunch of your work, and you are working to define a mythic under current in our present day society, and you focus on pop culture. What are you finding?

2. You analyze movies for their mythic significance, and I really relate to your conclusions. Do you think there are a bunch of Hollywood script writers sitting around a conference table saying: “Let’s find a bunch of heavy handed mythological imagery and sneak it into this corny movie.”

Is this the reality? Or, is it something stranger. Is this stuff just welling up from some hidden place?

3. This question is self-serving on my part. In the last 3 years or so, I’ve had such overt and heavy handed synchronicities and they are all pushing me in one direction. This force seems to be pushing me to openly explore my own experiences, and it’s a jumble of UFO stuff, weird coincidences and dreams.

I would love to get your take on this, any thoughts on what I’m dealing with?

The answers were long, and lead to other questions, and we could never really answer anything. The circular process of pondering was extremely illuminating, and the conversation left me with a deeper set of insights, but the mystery remains.

I'll add that whenever I really get immersed in the SECRET SUN's postings, I end up with a weird zap on my head. And I suddenly find all these intense connections and clues, it's like I can sense the spiderweb just beyond my conscious perceptions.

- and -

During the conversation, Chis states that he's kept a journal of his personal synchronicities. When I asked him about this and wanted a rough number of how many, he paused - collected his thoughts - and then said, "Tens of thousands."

Now
THAT peaked my interest!
___________________________________________________

During our conversation we reference a few things (links below):

Return of the Archons, a STAR TREK episode from 1967 with deep roots in anciet esoteric knowlledge. Chris says it's, "Gnostic as hell!"

Chris sees a terrifying little entity at the foot of his bed: The Leprechaun story.

Pushing Tin is a corny Hollywood movie with heavy-handed symbolism.

During our skype call I referred to a 5-minute Pixar animation as TAKEN, I got the title wrong - it's called LIFTED, it's a impressive piece of light entertainment. No dialog, it just assumes you know the whole story.

Nine-Eleven-Ten-Thirteen is a blog posting about the overt premonitions on the X-Files:

I recommend this excellent two part audio interview (better than mine) between Chris and Aeolus Kephas.

And, on St. Paddy's Day I felt like I was channeling Chris with this post about OWLS & SUPER MODELS.

Saint Patrick's Day (with 13 links)

Masha Telna (above) and Lily Cole (below), two super models, both with vaguely terrifying eyes.

This morning I recognized a pair of dueling blog posts.

The only two blogs I care about are from Mac Tonnies & and Christopher Knowles, and they are both pictured on my sidebar, with links (as is Whitley Strieber). They both write in their separate blogs about how weird certain super-models can look. They understandably ponder if they might (in fact) be alien hybrids. Or, as Budd Hopkins would correct me, transgenic beings.

Christopher's vote:
Lily Cole...or Indrid Cold?

Mac's vote:
Masha Telna: alien-human hybrid?

- And -

There's more. Just so you know, I had a long phone chat with Mac on Sunday night. We talked about sychronicities, Cindy Gail, Whitley, The Secret Sun, Indrid Cold, Aeolus Kephas and all the weirdness surrounding OWLS.

And - today is St. Patrick's Day. I'll add that the Christopher Knowles was caught off guard during a recent podcast interview with Aeolus Kephas. When Aeolus cautiously asked Chris if his very curious memories of a scary Leprechaun at the foot of his bed might imply some sort of contact experience, there was an audible pause - and Chris replied with a shaky: "No."

[LINK to the fascinating podcast]

And - Mac and I had a long talk about how the synaptic fiber of the internet may be a new set of neurons, allowing and encouraging a alternative web of synchronistic happenings. (like this post) - and this!

And - Mac sent me a link to an amazing article about Whitley Strieber - by Aeolus Kephas.

And - Chris compared Lily Cole to: "the owl-human hybrid-demon-goddess Lilith"

And - Lilith is the name of Whitley's heroine vampire in LILITH'S DREAM.

And - Whitley openly states that his vampire novels are metaphors for his "visitor" contact.

And - Whitley spoke out on my blog about MY owl story.

And - Cindy Gail sent me a cute LEPRECHAUN email today - and the magical synchronicity surrounding HER appearance in my life is the stuff of providence.

AND - today is Cindy Gail's birthday!

A list of this morning's synchronic WEIRDNESS:
Super Models
Hybrids
Blogs (in threes)
Owls (in threes)
Indrid Cold
Leprechauns
Whitley Stieber
Aeolus Kephas
St. Paddy's Day
and - Cindy Gail!
