an owl and a line of longitude

Due out soon!
I am working to finalize the follow up book about owls. There is one short segment I pulled out during the editing. I thought it was interesting, but it just messed with the flow of the overall chapter. The story deals with a woman Brenda who slept at her sister's house, and that night is filled with odd events. The next day, she saw a huge owl out the back window. This happened in Michigan not far from where I grew up.

Below is the text that's been nixed from the chapter.
What I am sharing next might seem vague, but it feels somehow important to me. I grew up in Southfield Michigan, not too far from where Brenda saw the owl on the back porch. I measured the distance between her sister’s house and my boyhood home at just a little over 17 miles.

I felt a powerful need to check the longitude of both Brenda's sister’s house and the site of my 1974 missing time event, down at the other end of the block from my old house. These longitudinal numbers are noted in degrees, minutes, and seconds. I found the degrees and minutes of longitude matched, but the seconds were off by about quarter of a mile. If you’re not familiar with map jargon, this basically means that these two sites line up almost perfectly north south.

This map stuff was weird for me. I don’t understand why, but something compelled me to check those positions. This wasn’t just an idle curiosity—I was lost for a full day feverishly checking (and re-checking) these coordinates. That Brenda’s owl experience “lines up” on the map with my missing time event as a boy seems significant, but my obsession to look seems like a deeper clue. Again, I can’t help but see myself connected to these other events.

Here’s another tidbit of map weirdness. The line of longitude (in decimal degrees) for my old cabin in Idaho was -111.111, a tidy six ones in a row. Once you get to that third digit to the right of the decimal point, at that latitude each number measures about 200 feet on the earth.
This segment ties into other map weirdness— Byron North Dakota and events in southern Utah.

line on a map across Southern Utah

GREEN Pin: Location of the round structure, 3-10-2013
RED Pin: Owl and orb seen by Natascha, 3-2-2011
BLUE Pin: Irrational fear with Natascha, 5-13-2010
___________________________________________________________

Note: The info here is a companion to another post about sleeping under the stars (linked HERE). This is required reading to fully understand the overal implications.
___________________________________________________________

I'm sorta freaked out. I just created this map. I did it in a sort of crazed intuitive flurry. Before I even started I absolutely knew what would appear. The yellow line connects three deeply personal sights in Southern Utah. This is entangled with the post I wrote this morning.

The GREEN pin marks the location of a round structure seen from my sleeping bag just two nights ago. (post linked HERE)

The RED pin marks the site where Natascha and I slept along the Burr Trail. That night she took a walk in the moonlight while I stayed in my sleeping bag. She saw a bright orb while I listened to the hooting of a Great Horned Owl. (post linked HERE)

The BLUE pin is what is pretty much the most profound abduction type experience I have ever (consciously) experienced. Natasha and I experienced an irrational sense of fear in a tent near Dolores Colorado. (post linked HERE) That same night I felt as if I was floating out of the roof of the tent and into a white realm. I asked, "Am I on a table?" and the next day I had a long scratch across my chest.

These three locations are each EXACTLY positioned along a 231 mile long straight line. The message to me is that something happened on Sunday night under the stars. Needless to say, this is some freaky shit!

The RED pin marks where I slept the night I heard the owl and Natascha saw the bright orb.
That pin is exactly where we were lying.
The yellow line cuts thru it (seemingly) to the millimeter!

The weird impulse to create this map:
About an hour ago I experienced a very clear knowing that these locations would line up perfectly. It didn't come in a clear verbal set of instructions. Instead, I was just suddenly aware of the full image, and how it looked (and all fit together) in one instant of absolute knowing. I just sat at the computer, opened google maps and did it. At first it was a little off. I was using my sleeping location from two nights ago as the western most point. The location of the orb and owl event in the middle was about 200 feet off from perfect. Then I switched the western most point about 1.6 miles to the site of the circular structure and everything lined up with an eerie exact perfection.

I am reliving the same weird sense of profound knowing from 2010. This involved putting lines on a map and it culminated in a series of posts linked HERE.

This sense of absolute knowing can only be called a very clear psychic download.

Text added March 15th 2013:
Last night I got a note from Natascha. She told me March 10th is her birthday! This is the date of the Sunday night event when I was in sleeping outside in Utah. She was with me and experienced the middle and Eastern events on the map. These were by far the scarier than what happened last Sunday.

(and)

On March 10th 2010 I posted the very first essay where I posted an essay titled a LINE ON A MAP. This dealt with the map weirdness that connected Mac Tonnies, Byron North Dakota and owls. This was exactly three years to the day before I lay down under the starts in Utah on Sunday night.

Text added March 23 2013:
Some more very strange data about these three sites on the map. A commenter named Anonymous checked the moon phases for the three events noted on the yellow line. Each event occurred extremely close to the new moon on the calendar for that day. The new moon is the exact opposite of the full moon, when the moon is at it's darkest.

The data he uncovered is noted below. He used a site called WolfrAmalpha to get the data around new moons and the calendar. I did a quick check using other on-line sources and his numbers are accurate.

nearest new moon to March 10th 2013 in Utah: 1:54 pm MDT March 11th 2013 (approx.12 hours after the event)

nearest new moon to March 2nd 2011 in Utah:
1:49 pm MST March 4th 2011 (approx. 58 hours after the event)

nearest new moon to May 13th 2010 in Colorado:
7:07 pm MST May 13th 2010 (approx. 4.5 hours before the event)

The March 10th 2013 event happened sometime after midnight and before 4:AM, there's no way of knowing. The March 2nd 2011event happened sometime before dawn. Maybe around 4:AM or so, again, no way of knowing. May 13th 2010 event happened around 11:40 PM, I remember looking at my watch and wrote it down the following morning.

The probability of three events happening so close to the new moon obviously very low. Also, the pattern of seeing a UFO during the new moon was noted by John Keel in The Mothman Prophesies.

Huge thanks to Anonymous!

sleeping out under the stars in Southern Utah

What I saw throughout the night from where I slept

What I am sharing here might be nothing, but I have made a pledge to post anything odd on this blog, so here goes.

I've just returned to my home after two weeks away. I spent most of that time at a UFO conference near Phoenix and then visiting friends in Sedona and Flagstaff.

When I drive around the west I try to sleep out under the stars and avoid getting a hotel room. This is what I did on Sunday night (the night of March 10th thru the morning of the 11th).

I slept along side Utah Highway 20 just a few miles away from I-15. It is noted as Buckskin Road on google maps. I pulled into the spot around 9:PM and walked around a little bit with a headlamp to stretch my legs. The area had low bushy trees (Junipers I think) and there was a series of beaten down roads and little turn outs. Typical of this part of the west there was some litter and evidence of campfires. Plenty of people had been here before. This was a cold Sunday night so I wasn’t really worried about anyone else pulling in. This was a perfect spot to sleep out. I set my sleeping pad down in the dirt near my little Subaru. I climbed into my sleeping bag and went to sleep.

At some point during the night I woke up. I suspect it was around mid-night. The stars were amazing and I was enjoying looking up at the clear sky. I looked at the ridge-line of rounded peaks to the south and saw what appeared to be a large round structure perched on top of a hill. My impression was that I was looking at a round house with a row of lights situated along the outer circumference of the building. It seemed like a big round fancy home.

Google map image looking South, the arrow shows the approximate location of the structure.
The gray line is Buckskin Road.

Right in that moment I pondered if this was a landed flying saucer. Really, I literally tried to take in what I was seeing and question the mood of what I felt deep inside myself. It seemed perfectly terrestrial. There was nothing at all other worldly about it. There was no feeling of anything at all being odd. I said to myself, if this was a flying saucer, I would sense something weird. But everything seemed fine. The lights were partially obscured by the trees but they seemed normal. I rolled over and went back to sleep.

I woke up again a little while later.

This time I saw a bright light on the ground near where I was sleeping, it was west of where I was lying on the ground. My impression was that it was just a car parked nearby and I was seeing a light. I sat up and tried to peer thru the low bushy trees. The light was mostly obscured and I moved my head from side to side in the hopes of getting a better view. I couldn’t see much but it seemed like nothing unusual. My impression was that someone pulled in while I was asleep and parked a short distance away. I am assuming that they were doing just what I was doing, sleeping in a pretty spot while doing a long drive.

I looked back up to the round structure on the hillside above me and nothing had changed. It still looked the same and the same neutral feeling.

I went back to sleep and woke sometime later. The light thru the bushes was now off and the circular round structure was pretty much the same. This time I noted a new light that appeared to be on the ground and just a little bit off to the left of the structure (see top image). It appeared to be a kind of yard lamp next to the big round home.

I think it was at this point that I felt pretty well rested and I got up. I tossed everything in the car and started driving again. If I remember correctly it was a little bit before 4:AM. This gets a little confusing because the switchover to daylights savings time would have been the night before and I hadn’t changed the clock in my car yet. So it might have been a little bit before 5:AM. I enjoy driving that early when the traffic is minimal.

I remember nothing at all unusual about that night, I slept well despite waking a few times. I feel like I got close to seven hours of sleep and I awoke feeling well rested.

overview showing the sleep site (multi-pins) and the structure site (green pin)

When I got home I felt the need to look at google maps to see an image of that round structure on the hill top. I feel strongly that I picked out where the round structure should have been. I found the exact location of my sleeping spot, but the weird thing is that I couldn’t find anything on the satellite image that would match the circular building. The structure with the lights was approximately 1.6 miles away from where I slept.

I checked the date of the satellite imagery on the google earth and it read 9/14/2011. Perhaps there has been some sort of a structure built since then and it simply isn’t available on the maps yet. Maybe I’ll see something when the satellite imagery gets updated.

It may not have been a house, it might have been an array of cell towers (or something similar) arranged in a circle. It might have been a round water tank, but it is highly unlikely it would be at that location or lit with lights. The ring of lights around the structure weren’t quite perfectly positioned, they seemed to be spaced a little bit irregular and slight up or down. The seemed to be windows and that's why I say it was a house. The top illustration shows a ring of bright lights, but I sensed windows as well.

Another odd thing is that the area where I saw the low light thru the bushes seems to have been well away from the areas cleared for easy parking. If a car had pulled in while I was asleep it (most likely) would not have driven off into that area.

When I awoke and got up to begin driving I sensed nothing at all unusual. I felt like the sleeping bag was zipped just exactly like I had closed it up earlier in the night. I will also add that there were two coyotes yapping away during the night. They seemed VERY close. I have spent a lot of time sleeping out in the west and I was charmed by their calls.

Again, this is probably nothing. What is odd is that I actually searched out the google satellite image when I got home. I didn’t dwell on any of this during the drive and I wasn’t at all concerned that night. I am writing this and sharing it here simply to document what happened. This post might be an insight into my own paranoia or it might be something more.

Blue Pin: low light during the night (approx), White Pin: the white jeep.

An odd little extra: When I turned off of Highway 20 around 9:PM I pulled into the first good spot to park only to realize that the site already had a car there. It was a white Jeep Cherokee with Wyoming license plates. I could see a little movement inside Jeep and I realized that I had probably spooked the people. I backed up and drove to a spot far enough away not to bother them. Their license plate had the prefix 10, and I that means Fremont County Wyoming. I have a lot of friends in that county and I figure anyone from there who would be parked at that spot at that time of the year would probably be my friend, or at least an acquaintance.

The jeep was still there when I drove out early the next morning.

Text added the same day:
First, this was posted at 12:34 PM. This just screams at me to pay attention!

Second, there is some freaky map weirdness, linked HERE. This is the kind of thing that makes this stuff really hard to deny.

Text added March 10th 2014:
I am adding to this post, exactly a year after the event along side highway 20 in Utah. I drove past this site in mid-February or 2014 on the way to the annual UFO conference in Arizona. I pulled off I-15 and went to the exact same spot and took some photos. I was confirming what I already knew, that there was no round structure on top of that hill.
the arrow points to the exact location of the round structure
I also retraced my route home, exactly as I had done the year before. I slept in the same spot as when I saw the round structure. I laid my pad down on the the exact same flat spot on the ground.

dream image with a raven

tidy art direction from the 1970's

I had a vivid dream just before I awoke, this happened on the morning of August 18th. I clearly saw a kind of graphic poster. It had a tidy listing of five bulleted points but I can only remember the first thing on the list. I'm pretty sure it stated: "Follow your heart." But it might have said, "Follow your heart chakra."

This beautiful and clean image came after I spent three days and two nights in the Pryor Range of southern Montana. This is a sacred place for the Crow Nation (and that's a raven in this image). I went there because I was drawn by a deep need and a lot of synchronicities. More on that visit soon.

I went there to get a message of some sort, and while I was there nothing really happened. The only thing I got was this nicely art directed dream image. It had a background of dark yellow and Upper and lower case helvetica in white letters. I am extremely clear on this because it so beautifully captures the art direction style from the 1970's.

I checked out Diana's Animal Spirit site and here is a list of Raven's Wisdom:
• Rebirth without fear
• Ability to tear down what needs to be rebuilt
• Renewal
• Ability to find light in darkness
• Courage of self-reflection
• Introspection
• Comfort with self
• Honoring ancestors
• Connection to the Crone
• Divination
• Change in consciousness
• New occurrences
• Eloquence
The pages in Medicine Cards by Sam's and Carson are even more profound. I got this book a year ago today. The chapter is long, so I'll include it in the comments below.

it sorta looked a little more like this in the dream

More about the image. Each of the other numbed points were equally simple instructions, but I have absolutely no memory of what they were. When I created the graphic image, I found I really liked the way the simplified image looked (the top image) and I am featuring that, even though it doesn't match my memory exactly.

One more thing, whatever it might imply, this essay was posted on my 50th birthday.

The Layered Language of Crop Circles

Lines on a map, and an attempt to define deep mysteries.
Crop circles, UFOs, and synchronicities are clues to our connection with a largely-unseen web of reality. Interactions with these phenomena show us that we aren’t isolated packets of consciousness; rather, we are transmitters and receivers of meaning through language.
We find that where these extraordinary phenomena occur in conjunction with one another and are then plotted on a map, a brilliant and always-evolving syntax emerges. As we wish, we are given to explore a language that has nothing to do with the describing the mundane and everything to do with navigating the fringes of reality.
The above quote is an excerpt from The Layered Language of Crop Circles.

The author, Stace Tussel Colligan, is a comrade of mine.

We've repeatedly tossed ideas back and forth between each other and she's helped me widen my view of reality. She posted a video on a a very curious crop circle synchronicity, and that was the genesis of my very strange set of map posts from March of last year.

Those posts (and my use of google-maps) played a role in her recent post on her blog, Inter-Intelligence-Communications. She's come up with some very odd synchronistic lines concerning her North American crop circle research.

This post is absolutely fascinating, but I don't know what it means, all I know for sure is that I am going to pay very close attention.

One thing I do notice is that one line passes through the Pryor Mountains in Montana. I have just barely hinted at this location as important in my own blog, but this location has been a sort of synchro-beacon as I proceed down this path.

The dark area is The Pryor Mountains, the home of the "little people" in the lore of the Crow Nation.

one year ago today

28 short eared owls on a fence in Missouri. Very eerie photo by Faren Fite, double click on the image for a HI-rez view.
_________________________________________________________
It was one year ago today that I recieved Mac Tonnies' book in the mail.

This was the same day I was sent a link to a series of still photos featuring a very unusual cluster of owls on a fence in Misourri. These two seemingly unrelated events were the opening salvo in an onslought of overt weirdness that almost drove me into madness.

These were the seeds to a series of postings all under the rather bland label: MAP.

Just so y'know, there will be a day when I follow up on this mysterious jumble of tangled clues, more for me than any reader of this blog.
_________________________________________________________

Below is a short note I found in my files, written to myself almost a year ago:

On the afternoon of March 12th I was trying to deal with the google maps program and create some more exacting lines. During this somewhat compulsive work, the phone rang, and it was Mac Tonnies’ mother. It was a very touching conversation, she called to thank me for the illustrations in the book. We spoke for almost an hour, and she shared a lot about her son. After saying goodbye, I was absolutely filled with gratitude.

mysterious star map?

Any astronomers out there recognize something familiar in this pattern of splattered coffee?

(Please don't read too much into this little story)

During the middle of March I was swallowed up in the obsessive throws of map weirdness. At one point I was on a skype call with my pal Natascha, and my cat walked across my desk and she ended up spilling a full cup of coffee and it splashed all over everything, including some pencil notes on that map.

As I cleaned up the inky mess, I saw that the coffee had splattered quite an compelling array of speckles on the paper with the notes. There was something captivating about the new image. My first reaction was: "Wow, is this looks like a constellation, is this a star map?"

I spent a little bit of time with H.A. Ray's beautiful book STARS (a book I dearly love) trying to find some correlation to the polka-dots of coffee on that paper. I put the book away, and then I kind of stated (quite loudly) in my own head: THE PLEIADES! There was a feeling of absolute KNOWING that accompanied that though. A feeling I was quick to doubt.

After a while, I realized that this was a little bit fanatical, even for me.

Please know, I am probably gunna take this post down at some point. I think it's funny, and there are a few readers who might think so too.
_____________________________________________

Also - To write this post, I made good use of the thesaurus to find synonyms for the word compulsive. No foolin' - that map got really intense.

The top image is exactly the coffee splatter made into a B&W star map. The image below is the Pleiades. I revised the images and featured only the six brightest stars or splat marks.

Diana the animal psychic from the recent audio interview chimed in via email, she said:
"...When I first looked at them I got 'Dipper.' Then immediately I got, 'No. That's not right.' Then I got 'Pleiades.' What is interesting is that it doesn't look exactly like the Pleiades, but my Guide said that. Have no idea why. I did look up a picture of the Pleiades and they are similar."
Diana went on to tell me that my cat was rather exasperated that I don't trust her and the dots she made with the spilled coffee. She said my cat was thinking: "Oh c'mon, I did a really good job, it's close enough!"

In the lore of the love and light contactees, the Pleiades is home to the beautiful blond angel like beings that radiate benevolence. I'm not sure what I'm implying, but...

Here is an accurate star map of Cassiopeia for comparison. Some comments below noted the similarity.

astounding owl video

More incredible owl imagery!

There was video footage that same day in the outskirts of Greenfield Missouri. I've been in contact with the two folks (Tony & Faren) involved with the photographs and video. (location here)

Tony wrote: "I have spoken to several people with of wildlife knowledge, including one conservation agent. He said he had never seen more than 3 or 4 owls in one spot. This video doesn't do the sighting justice. There was probably more than 200 in the area."

You simply MUST watch the Hi-Definition clips on YouTube:
______________________________________________________
Please keep in mind, the location of this incredible owl sighting is also a point on a map. A place that lines up with Kansas City and Byron North Dakota, whatever that means. As best as I can figure, this owl video was filmed 123 miles from Mac's apartment. Yes, 123.

Update on the yellow line on the map

I just received a short note from the Missouri photographer who took those amazing owl photographs.

He wrote: "Yes, it was amazing. I have seen many things in my life but the owls were one of the most wonderful... There would have been more pictures, but I didn't realize what I was looking at until I had passed many of them."

He sent me a map where he penciled in the exact location of the owl sighting, approximately four miles North of the very small town of Lockwood Missouri. I could see the farmer's fence on google maps satalite imagery. It was about two miles west of where I had guessed (using the info provided on the site where I first saw his owl photos). So, this changes a few details on the map, and some of the razor sharp exactness on an earlier posting.

When I create a line from the exact site of the owls (the blue marker) directly to Byron North Dakota, the yellow line doesn't run right thru Mac's apartment (the yellow marker) in Kansas City anymore. Instead, it is now a little less than two miles to the west. It's still pretty close, but not as precise as the previous image.

Where oh where was the Starbucks where Mac worked?

The owls were seen near an area noted as "Grays Valley" on the map. These were not Great Gray owls, but were Short Eared Owls. (they were not gray aliens either!)

Alas, none of this will make sense unless you read the postings below.

Byron North Dakota & Anya Briggs

A funny red marker in a farmers field defines Byron North Dakota.

The previous post was long and wordy and I tried to be as clear as possible, but this whole thing is very complicated. I tried to write about a channeled session with Anya Briggs and it's implications. The psychic reading was recorded, and I used that MP3 to create an audio excerpt (with some extra comments) as a way to help define this curious spot on the map. Byron North Dakota seems to be a pivotal place in this conundrum.

When Anya (or, more correctly, her guides) told me to visit Byron North Dakota back in early November, during our session, the whole thing seemed exciting, but also utterly strange. In the last few months, it's importance was sort of fading away. Well, this line on the map pushed it right back into the forefront of something to pursue! More weirdness.

If you listen to the audio, the very first thing Anya says about that whole thing comes out of nowhere, she changes subjects, and asks: "Is there a BRYON Wyoming or North Dakota?"

Somehow, when I searched I found the little marker under a different spelling. Mixing up BRYON to BYRON is normal for me.

Anya later replies in an email:
"Well, spelling and hearing gets messed up in the translation sometimes . . . Odds are I heard the name wrong . . . Replace the Y with the R from BRYON to BYRON and its the same spot. I was telling you 'in North Dakota', so that's probably the same place they were referring to. You know this happens in channeling, it's not an exact science! ..."
During the last few years, I've definitely experienced the feeling of being freaked out, and sometimes I wallow unnecessarily in the drama of that feeling. Presently - I'm simply perplexed and curious.

audio download / 19 minutes long

Follow up 3 minutes after posting the audio:
Okay, more weirdness, I just finished editing the audio post. Please note, the red dot on the map is BYRON, and Anya was adamant that name was BRYON. Two letters are reversed, I messed up at some point (maybe). As I type this, I'm sorta confused, it's normal for me to mix-up letters in a word. BYRON is in line with the owls and Kansas City.

And there is nothing called BRYON North Dakota. But, there is a town in Wyoming called BYRON.

An hour after posting the follow up above:
Okay, even more weirdness. A straight line (690 miles long) passes directly through BYRON ND and BYRON WY goes straight though my house in Idaho, and I mean EXACTLY!

The blue line runs right through the Shoshone River, less than 800 feet from the Main Street of BRYON Wyoming. I find it curious that the line follows the river, especially after Anya is so adamant about dousing.

This pink push pin marks my cute little cabin in rural Idaho. The blue line ends right at my home after passing (in a straight line) from both BYRON's.

My gut reaction to that razor sharp blue line was that it was somehow pointing directly at me! It sorta felt like the floor dropped out from under where I sat. This little detail is (from my perspective) extraordinarily weird.

NOTE: This satellite photo (above) was super blurry, and I cleaned it up a little bit using photoshop, just so it was easier to visualize the square shape of my cabin.

Pink Pin: My cute house in Idaho
Green Pin: Byron Wyoming
Red Pin: Byron North Dakota
Yellow Pin: Kansas City Missouri
Blue Pin: The site where the guy saw over 200 owls!
Yellow Line: 835 miles longBlue Line: 690 miles long
White Line: 995 miles long

Extra text, added March 13th
Kansas City is a big place, so I typed in Mac's address into Google Maps, and it happened again. The Yellow marker in this map and it lines up right he lived.

This Yellow line runs from Byron ND to the owl sightings 123 miles south-east, and it bisects Mac's apartment. I am absolutely thunderstruck by the exacting accuracy of these lines.

This line is dependant on the location of the owl photos. At present, I don't know precisely where (but I'm workin' on it!).

Text Added April 18th 2010:
The word Byron and Bryon get mixed up somewhere. I have my paper notes from that session (and I may scan and add them here) ant they clearly read BYRON. So, she said Bryon, and I wrote down Byron. I typed BYRON into google as a way to search out what it might mean, so it was me that made the curious switch-a-roo with the two letters. What this means, I have no idea.

a line on a map

That little red push pin is marking Byron North Dakota, whatever that means. Follow that yellow line 820 miles and it ends at the mysterious owl location in central Missouri, bisecting Mac's apartment along the way. The blue line is even stranger.

Sometimes I worry that I’ve gone completely insane, and this posting is an example of the out-and-out weirdness that leaves me utterly perplexed. Perhaps the easiest conclusion is that I’m just plain nuts. (maybe) That said, this little story is very interesting, at least to me. There is a yellow line in these map images, and it's either magic or folly.

First, I need share some information that came from Anya Briggs during a channeled session in early November 2009. At one point in the session she asked, “Do you know of a place called Byron, it’s somewhere near you?” I said I’m not sure.

She went through some rather comical attempts to make sense of what her guides were trying to tell her. Eventually she narrowed it down to Byron North Dakota. Right then, during our session, I googled Byron North Dakota, and pretty much ONLY one thing came up, a funny map with a marker in the middle of some farmer's field, right near the Canadian border.

Anya went on to tell me that: “Byron North Dakota will be very good to you, you will see us there.” And by us, she meant her guides, and by her guides, I suspect she meant alien beings in robes from another planet (or another dimension).

We both thought it was really funny. I’m still not quite sure what to make of it, but it was interesting. I suspect I'll make a pilgrimage there soon enough.

(I've added an audio excerpt from that channeled session, it's helpful in fully understanding this story, and it's funny. See the following post)

Now, let’s jump ahead to yesterday. I got a package in the mail from Anomalist books, it contained a few copies of Mac Tonnies posthumous book The Cryptoterrestrials. It prompted me to write a post (below) in praise of this amazing addition to the UFO literature.

Photo by Faren Fite, one (two actually) of over 200 owls he saw in rural Missouri.

And yesterday I also received a link to a series of super cool owl photographs, and I wrote a post about that too (also below).

It seemed curious that the two posts below, both come from Missouri. Mac Tonnies lived in Kansas City, and those beautiful owl pictures were taken somewhere between Greenfield and Lockwood Missouri. At first I was curious if they were two locations were close, so I checked google maps and put little YELLOW push pin marker on Kansas City and another marker (a blue pin) on the road between Greenfield and Lockwood. I checked and the two push pins were 123 miles apart, and whenever I see the numbers 123, I take a special notice.

(NOTE: On March 26th I received a letter from the owl photographer. See THIS post for more info)

The yellow line passes between Lockwood and Greenfield along US-Highway 160. This is the approximate location of those amazing owl photos.

Now, this is where things get weird. Don’t ask me why, because I don’t know. I just widened out the image on google maps and found Byron North Dakota, I used the map program and put a push pin in there too, a RED one.

Low tech tools incorporated in the detective work.

Then, without really thinking about it, I took a plastic ruler and set it against my computer monitor, and the three push pins line up EXACTLY in a straight line. I gotta say, this partially freaked me out, and at the same time, I sorta knew they were gunna line up before I even started.

A weird line, connecting the three dots across a BIG section of the US map. Byron in RED, Kansas City in YELLOW and those owls in BLUE.

I used some of the google-map tools to create a straight line on the map. It was funny process and hard to figure out. Alas, the line doesn’t quite precisely hit Byron, and I don’t really know the exact location of those owls. But I gotta say, it’s pretty feakin’ close!

There are 820 miles between the red push pin up North in Byron and blue push pin down in Greenfield Missouri, on the road where the owl pictures were taken, with that straight yellow line plainly bisecting Kansas City.

The hometown of my pal Mac, and the yellow line passes right through the city.

Three little dots on a map, all seemingly random, and I felt weirdly compelled to hold a ruler to my computer screen to figure it out. Again, don’t ask me why. I even set a protractor on my screen, and the line comes in at 17 degrees in relation to the latitude (and I knew that before hand too).

Owls, Mac Tonnies and message from Anya Briggs, all along one very straight line.

This whole thing is super weird, even by my standards. And during the time I was laboring over those maps, and trying to figure out how to position that line on the image, I get an email from Whitley Strieber. He writes: “Mike. we would love to interview you about him [Mac Tonnies] and your relationship.” What? I sure didn't expect that.

Earlier in the morning, I sent an email to Whitley telling him I thought he should read Mac’s book, and I could easily mail him a copy, but I didn’t really think I would get a reply, especially that reply. I’ll add I am not sure how serious he is, but if it happens, I would be deeply honored to praise Mac in an interview.

The spark of the idea to lay that plastic ruler against my computer screen came from Stace Tussel. I was directly inspired by her straight line on a map of Kansas. Please watch this very curious video.

Mac Tonnies' book is on the shelves

Mac Tonnies' book, The Cryptoterrestrials is now available. I got to read an advanced copy, and I feel strongly saying that this is a very important addition to the literatrure on the UFO phenomenon. The world is a lesser place without Mac's brilliant mind and gentle voice.

Forward by Nick Redfern, afterword by Greg Bishop and illustrations by me.

From Anomalist books.

And please, I encourage everybody to dig thru Mac's blog. It is still on-line, and it's astoundingly fun. The image above is a masthead idea for Mac's blog. I wanted to use hand lettering, and Mac seemed to like the simple idea. It was a work in progress, and I never followed up on this as a drawing.

lotsa owls in Missouri

14 owls in one photo

28 owls (doubled from above) in one photo

Amazing owl photos from a man named Faren Fite. H claims to have seen around 200 owls in one small area between Greenfield and Lockwood Missouri. And on one corral fence there were more than thirty in a group, and he took photos!

You simply MUST click on these images for a HI-rez view of these Short-Eared owls, they are SO cool!

On September 21st 2009 (the autumn equinox) I asked if anyone out there has seen adult owls in groups of three (or five)? Well this was a sort of answer, along with Stacey's multiple owl story.

I got the link to these owl photos forwarded to me from a guy named Jim, and he was the guy who posted an very curious owl story on the SYNCHRONICITY site, and he's also from Idaho.

I received a letter from the photographer giving me the exact location of the owls in those photos. This helps define some weird lines on a map (see the posts above).
