“You're that guy!"

Last night I called the Apple Support help line. I'd spent a frustrating bunch of hours trying to solve some formatting issues using Pages, a word processing application on my computer. The first guy heard me out, and he quickly realized that my questions were so specific he would need to hand off me off to someone in the technical department.

I was on hold for a few minutes. The next guy came on the line, and said he had my case up on his screen. I was explaining my issues when he interrupts, “Wait, your name is familiar.”

I asked, “Uhhhm, do you rock climb?” I asked that because I did cartoons in Climbing magazine for over a decade.

He said no, and then I cautiously asked, “Do you read you UFO books?”

He blurted out, “You're that guy! I used to listen to your podcast!”

He seemed genuinely happy, and I was too! I told him the day before had been the 10th anniversary of my blog. We chatted for a little bit and then we got down to dealing with my formatting questions. We shard the screen so he got a quick peak at the upcoming book. With a little trial and error, we managed to solve my issues said goodbye.

This kind of thing doesn’t happen very often. It was a nice way to quell the frustrations from all the technical stuff that afternoon.
