Christopher Knowles on the Elusive Companion Hypothesis

The Dawn of Man.

Christopher Knowles has coined a new term, The ELUSIVE COMPANION HYPOTHESIS as a way to better articulate the elusive meta-weirdness that surrounds the UFO phenomenon.

This term Elusive Companion Hypothesis (ECH) emerged during a series of five excellent posts on THE SECRET SUN. I strongly urge you to read each one of these essays. Trust me on this.

These posts are:
a.
My Favorite Nightmares
b.
AstroGnostic: Reality Is as Reality Does
c.
AstroGnostic: Stanley Kubrick and the Reality Stargate
d.
AstroGnostic: Moon-Machines and Mindbombs
e.
Ockham, the Occult and the Ultraterrestrials

Stanley Kubrick and Jack Kirby both attempt to redefine the scope of their respective crafts. Each use overtly mythic imagery to bypass the normal pathways, and ends up rewiring a hidden part of our psyche. The stories brought back by alien abductees have the same sweeping power.

From left to right: The Reptilian, the Human and the Nordic. In his blog postings Mr. Knowles expounds on the overt imagery of Jack Kirby's epic comic book THE ETERNALS.

This set of farsighted essays paints a swirling entanglement of UFOs, Jack Kirby, Stanley Kubrick, Arthur C. Clarke, ancient astronauts, synchronicities, The Watchers, science fiction, nightmares, human evolution - and - alien abductees.

I also ask him about a very creepy glowing figure that Chris saw last summer at night with his dog, and this experience is downright (sorry to use the word, but) paranormal!

What does Buzz know that he’s not telling us?

Mr. Knowles speculates that if there's a signal out there, it’s being filtered out. Shamans, occultists, sick children and other thought-criminals seem to pick up on the signal when the stars are all aligned. It's a fleeting state, but it's driven forward our evolution in ways we don't quite understand.

And sometimes, even humble “Joe Normal” gets zapped by this signal on his very own road to Damascus. And even Haywood Floyd got zapped in a 40 foot pit on the moon.

What the?

classic images from a long gone era

Caricature of Dr. J. Allen Hyneck in classic comic book style.

This image is from an amazing series of comic books succinctly titled UFO FLYING SAUCERS. The content is nothing more than the key cases from the UFO literature, with each incident rendered out in a short sequence of traditional illustrated frames. The series began in 1968 (the year of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY) and ended in 1977 (the year of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND).

There is something beautiful to the work-a-day craftsmanship of these comic books. Looking at these pages, it saddens me that there ain't really nuthin' new to the way we look at the overall story. No answers, just unanswered questions. Huge thanks to Christopher Knowles at THE SECRET SUN for turning me on to these quintessential images from a long gone era.

Oh how Mac Tonnies would have LOVED these classic images. As a kid, I desperately wanted to draw stuff just like this!

Christopher Knowles on AstroGnostic reality

The ultimate trip.

I need to recommend a series of posts on THE SECRET SUN. This multi-part set of essays, written by Christopher Knowles, attempts to unravel nightmares, alien abduction and 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. Basically, these topics can all be seen under the umbrella of the evolutionary transformation of the human species.

Or, click on THE SECRET SUN, scroll down to the April 25th post, and read your way back up the page to the March 14th essay.

The first installment of this series of blog postings dealt with the plasticity of memory, focusing on the vivid memories from Mr. Knowles' childhood, these were were either nightmares or hallucinations, many of which had strands of commonality with abduction experiences.

The second part looks at weird strands of commonality within many classic abduction reports, which is to say, pre-Communion, pre-Intruders. As many have pointed out they're remarkably similar to folk stories of encounter with elves and fairies. As Mr. Knowles points out, they have an even stronger similarity to ancient encounters with the Gods.

The third installment looks at Kubrick's masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey, the first of the great Hollywood tributes to the ancient engineers. Mr. Knowles argues that none of the symbolic interpretations of the film are as dangerous as what's being presented onscreen. Master manipulator that he was, Kubrick might well have planted all kinds of symbols and distractions while the truly subversive message of the film are hidden in plain sight.

We attempt to untangle a considerable amount of divergent topics, including (but not limited to) the UFO abduction phenomenon, mystical realms, vivid dreams, Nick Redfern, THE CRYPTOTERRESTRIALS by Mac Tonnies, R. the convergence of consciousness and alien abduction

Maureen Puddy with her car at the location of her 1972 experience.

Christopher Knowles posted a very relevant essay on his blog THE SECRET SUN. I'm recommending this perceptive post highly. It's especially interesting to read this in conjunction with my own audio interview with Dr. Janet Colli (below).

Part of his essay includes a report about the Maureen Puddy's close encounter in Australia in the summer of 1972. Mr. Knowles looks into this case with his ever mythic eye.

Something about this really hit me, it's a VERY insightful look at the elusive stuff that's woven into the phenomenon. Stuff that's overlooked, dismissed and ignored. Stuff that makes me miss Mac Tonnies.

A quote from Christopher's blog post:
If this report is to be believed, something was messing with this woman's reality paradigm and it started with a sighting, leading to a string of strange mechanical events. And this is just one story.

audio conversation with Dr. Janet Elizabeth Colli

Dr. Colli wrote a book titled book SACRED ENCOUNTERS, and here’s a quote from page 34:
The “subtle realm” is the hidden dimension that shadows the phenomenal world we perceive with our senses. It is the forbidden domain, the realm of angels and aliens. The realm beyond consensus reality.
This got my attention, I've been working hard to try and wrap my mind around exactly these hard to grasp concepts.

one hour and 36 minutes long

During the interview we ponder the term “subtle realms” as way to describe the indescribable. We attempt to name a place just beyond our grasp and what it might mean. I asked how her patients report their “altered states” of consciousness. Can you try and describe that realm. And how her role as a therapist attempt to re-access these altered states of consciousness?

During the interview I share a personal experience with, what might be, that very strange ALTERED REALITY realm. And follow it up with a funny dream of the UFO in my brother’s garage. And I talk about a VERY vivid dream that culminates with a blue orb floating above my bed.

Dr. Colli is a therapist, and during our conversation I speak quite openly about my dealings with clinical depression. I was very tempted to edit out this section of the interview because it I talk about some very personal stuff. But I really feel that it’s relevant to some of the bigger questions that we attempt to unravel.

I first heard bout Dr. Colli on an audio podcast by Jeremy Vaini back in June of 2008 on his Culture of Contact show. I listened to it again as part of my preparation for my interview. This highly recommended conversation is linked HERE.

About Dr. Colli's book,

“A transfixing exploration of the human side of alien encounters. Entering into the storied lives of two life-long ‘experiencers’ of alien contact, journeying from Dharamsala to the mists of Seattle, Dr. Colli discovers the most important lesson for humankind comes not from the beyond but from within the heart; that compassion is the foundation for understanding even the most ‘alien’ of experiences.”

Archivist, The John E. Mack Institute

Text added March 25th 2013:
Here's a follow up half hour interview with Dr. Colli. I had the honor to sit in as the guest host for Whitley Strieber's on-line subscribers and interview with her. During the follow up interview we talked about the event in the tent with Natascha from 2010.

This conversation seems a little bit like a client and a therapist, where I ask for help and she shares her insights.
