Jim Harold talks about owls

Jim Harold and I spoke about owls for about 40 minutes, and this conversation is posted on his subscription site. But, I have permission to link it here on my site, so you can hear it for free. Jim hadn't read my book, so I needed to try to convey the complex ideas within those pages in a short amount of time. By the end, I sense he was impressed at what I had worked to explain.

still selling well after over half a year

The Messengers has been on sale since December 3rd of 2015, so it's been available for seven months. I need to admit that I check the amazon sales ranking for this book more than I should, it's become a bit obsessive. As of today it was ranked number three in the amazon rankings for kindle UFO books. This is astounding to me. I had no expectations that it would be this popular. Now I fully realize that this is a tiny category and the actual number of books sold is still pretty modest compared to what Steven King might be used to getting, but gee-whiz!

The other two books ahead of this in sales are both discounted prices. Ingo Swann's book was first published in 1998 (with 123 reviews?). Curiously, the books that are usually seen in the top slots are Behold a Pale Horse by William Cooper and Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Däniken.

I've been truly gratified at the sales, as well as the supportive comments and emails I've been receiving. A huge thank you to anyone who has made the effort to dig into this big fat book!

Just checked and the owl book is now number TWO on amazon in the UFO category, again behind Ingo Swann's book...

Peter Maxwell Slattery and owls

Peter Maxwell Slattery is a young outspoken contactee from Australia. I was the 10th guest on his show back in 2013, and now we are speaking together again here on episode 152.

He has an amazing owl story starting at the 14:00 time count. This happened a few days before I contacted him. My reason for calling him was entirely selfish on my end, I wanted to promote the owl book

One question that any researcher will ask someone with a history of contact events is, “Do you feel a sense of mission.” Just looking at Peter’s site and recent history, it’s obvious that he’s on fire with this sense of mission.

This quote above is from Whitley Strieber on his latest Dreamland interview. We had an hour long conversation about my book The Messengers. I was shocked at the strength of his compliments. I was a bit nervous leading up to this interview. He seemed to perceive the deeper ideas in my book, perhaps with more clarity than myself.

I transcribed some of what he said during the interview. These quotes are powerful stuff (another one below) and he said things that left me humbled.

Coming up in just a few weeks is the release of The Super Natural: A New Vision of the Unexplained, by Whitley Strieber and Jeffery Kripal. This book (like my own) features a bright yellow owl eye. Owl book reviewed on Mysterious Universe

Ben and Aaron at Mysterious Universe spent over 40 minutes of their podcast excitedly talking about The Messengers. It is funny as an author to hear other folks re-telling accounts from the book. The did a very good job, but they got a few minor points wrong. Beyond that, it was fun to hear them enthusiastically applaud the book—especially with their thick Australian accents!

Stories from The Messengers — a companion book

The Messengers has been available for over a month. I wanted to let readers know that there is a follow up in the works, a companion book to be titled Stories from The Messengers. 

I have been collecting these strange owl stories for the last few years, and some of them were just too long to put in the initial volume. It would be unfair to the people who’ve experienced these baffling life events to edit down their stories. These longer accounts have a complexity that require that they be told completely. The Messengers is just shy of 400 pages, and it would have been irresponsible to cram a bunch of long complex stories into an already long book. 

Anne Strieber, the late wife of author Whitley Strieber, had a simple way of evaluating the truth of a UFO report. She said, if it’s not weird, I don’t trust it. This was her BS detector, and I think its valid.

Within these longer stories is a confusing collision of overlapping experiences. A mess of twists and turns, and all of them weird. Things feel mixed up with threads running off everywhere in a tangled knot of implausibility. Synchronicity spills over the edges like an unattended sink. For me, this kind of chaos is a sign to trust the event as legitimate. The more complicated the interwoven details, the more valid it seems. This all becomes a shaky form of proof that something truly paranormal is unfolding. 

I’ve been referring to this frenetic pattern as the paradox syndrome. A paradox is an attempt at sound reasoning, but the conclusion appears unacceptable. A syndrome is a group of related or coinciding things, events, and actions. I don’t understand why it works this way, but all the messy threads must tie into some core event, and the challenge is not to get lost in the mayhem. And when there is an owl tied to one of these threads, I pay very close attention.

This next book will read like a collection of short stories with this paradox syndrome as its central theme. A lot of it is already written (although unpolished) so it is a matter of cleaning it up for publication. There is no set date on the companion book, but it’s on my desk now, my mission for the short term.

Absolutely fascinating. New insights, ideas, I cannot put this book down. Just when I think its covered everything, the next page will delve into another insight that shakes me to the core. A must read for anyone interested in the contact experience.

Missing text in the owl book

An update for anyone

who already has The Messengers

The book has been available online since December 3rd, just a day over two weeks now. It took me a little bit to realize that a few key paragraphs were missing from this initial book. This has now been corrected, but the oversight is a bit embarrassing.

One short sub-chapter went missing during the final editing process and is shared here on this page. The missing section should have been placed right before the Conclusion. This was an important bit, a sort of culmination to some of my more significant experiences.

So, I you have received the book THE MESSENGERS in the first two weeks of its publication, you will want these missing paragraphs.

Foreword to The Messengers

You are about to read one of the most original books ever written on UFOs, one that will make any thoughtful person ask fundamental questions about the nature of reality itself. More than any work in recent memory, it successfully ties the UFO phenomenon not simply to possible extraterrestrial intelligences, but to synchronicities, ancient archetypes, dreams, shamanistic experiences, magic, personal transformation, and death. 

And owls. Because Mike Clelland has gathered together compelling and persuasive accounts from innumerable people who have had UFO sightings and apparent abduction experiences in conjunction with absolutely bizarre experiences with owls. Yes, real owls, not owls as screen memories of something else (although as anyone familiar with abduction research knows, this has been reported from time to time).
