Red Pill Junkie asks some questions about the owl book

art by RPJ
Red Pill Junkie posted a Q&A with me over at The Daily Grail. We talk about the process of creating the big book, The Messengers. He asked really good questions!

At the bottom of the post is a link to a exclusive (and rather lengthy) excerpt from the book.

RPJ is also following the career path of cartoonist. A path I too have chosen.

  1. It wasn't so much a 'career' choice for me, truth be told. I always liked to draw, ever since I was a kid. One Xmas someone gave me The Illusion of Life by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston --2 of Disney's original "Nine Old Men"-- and it really inspired me into wanting to become an animator. Alas, there were no places to study that career down here in Mexico, and in the end instead of studying Graphic Arts or something similar I studied Industrial Design --a very poor choice in the end, but that's a long story...

When I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy tablet, my passion for doodling rekindled in a very big way. I'm happy to report I've put the tablet to good use by making the illustrations (and the cover) for Greg Bishop's upcoming book. Needless to say, I took great inspiration on you Mike, when I undertook that project ;)

  2. I'm very interested in getting a hold of this book, Mike. Such a great Q&A by you Red Pill Junkie. ;)

I've been having a lot of synchronicity with time lately. Looking at the clock and it says the same time 1:11am or 2:22am quite frequently. At first I laughed it off but after almost a month of this going on, I'm starting to question what is really going on?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)

  3. Thanks, Ashley :)

Re. your clock synchros, it reminds me of what happened to my friend Greg Bishop the night before he was supposed to interview the late Karla Turner for his magazine The Excluded Middle. He says that night he kept spontaneously waking up at 11:11, 12:12, 1:01, 2:02, etc. It had never happened before and I don't think it repeated again.

  4. Thanks so much for your response RPJ. :)

It's gotten to the point that it not only happens at night but during the day hours as well. My schedule is all over the place from day to day so I just can't figure it out really. It has spooked me so much in the middle of the night waking up to seeing repetitive numbers that I've started to cover my clock so I purposely won't see the time if I was to wake up. I've thought maybe it's some biological clock my body is on.. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, right? lol Synchronicity is such a mind boggling thing!

  6. Thanks, Anthony :)

No, I used my swanky Galaxy Note Pro, which has shown to be quite handy for these type of things. Alas, not as versatile as a Wacom tablet hooked to an iMac would be, but for not it'll do ;)
