dream image with a raven

tidy art direction from the 1970's

I had a vivid dream just before I awoke, this happened on the morning of August 18th. I clearly saw a kind of graphic poster. It had a tidy listing of five bulleted points but I can only remember the first thing on the list. I'm pretty sure it stated: "Follow your heart." But it might have said, "Follow your heart chakra."

This beautiful and clean image came after I spent three days and two nights in the Pryor Range of southern Montana. This is a sacred place for the Crow Nation (and that's a raven in this image). I went there because I was drawn by a deep need and a lot of synchronicities. More on that visit soon.

I went there to get a message of some sort, and while I was there nothing really happened. The only thing I got was this nicely art directed dream image. It had a background of dark yellow and Upper and lower case helvetica in white letters. I am extremely clear on this because it so beautifully captures the art direction style from the 1970's.

I checked out Diana's Animal Spirit site and here is a list of Raven's Wisdom:
• Rebirth without fear
• Ability to tear down what needs to be rebuilt
• Renewal
• Ability to find light in darkness
• Courage of self-reflection
• Introspection
• Comfort with self
• Honoring ancestors
• Connection to the Crone
• Divination
• Change in consciousness
• New occurrences
• Eloquence
The pages in Medicine Cards by Sam's and Carson are even more profound. I got this book a year ago today. The chapter is long, so I'll include it in the comments below.

it sorta looked a little more like this in the dream

More about the image. Each of the other numbed points were equally simple instructions, but I have absolutely no memory of what they were. When I created the graphic image, I found I really liked the way the simplified image looked (the top image) and I am featuring that, even though it doesn't match my memory exactly.

One more thing, whatever it might imply, this essay was posted on my 50th birthday.

This post has everything to do with the map, Byron Wyoming and the giant triangle across the middle of the country. It was from this series of experiences all connected with that map that I ended up sleeping out in the Pryor Range, the traditional home of the Little People.

  1. Raven magic

Throughout time, raisin has carried the medicine of magic. This has been true in many cultures across the planet. It is sacred, in the ways of medicine, to honor Raven as the bringer of magic. If the magic is bad medicine, the carrier may be honored out of fear rather than out of respect. Those who fear Raven may do so because they have been dabbling in areas which they had no knowledge, and a spell may have backfired on them. Rather than analyzing the dark side of sorcery, realize that you will fear Raven only if you need to learn about your inner fears or self – created demons.

Raven magic is a powerful medicine that can give you the courage to enter the darkness of the void, which is the home of all that is not get in the form. The void is called the great mystery. Great mystery existed before all other things came into being. Great spirit lives inside the void and emerged from the great mystery. Raven is the messenger of the void.

If Raven appears in your spread, you are about to experience a change in consciousness. This may involve walking in side the great mystery on another pass at the edge of time. It would portend a signal brought by the Raven that says, "You have earned the right to see and experience a little more of life's magic. Ravens color is the color of the void – the black hole in space that holds all energy of the creative source.

In native teachings the color black means many things, but it does not mean diesel. Black can mean the seeking of answers, in the void, or the road of the spiritual or non-physical. The blue–black of Raven contains and iridescents that speaks of the magic of darkness, and change ability of form and shape that brings an awakening in the process.

Raven is the guardian of ceremonial magic and in abstntia healing, in any Healing circle, Raven is present. Raven guides the magic of healing and the change in consciousness that will bring about a new reality and dispel this – tease or illness. Raven brings in the new state of wellness from the void of great mystery and the field of plenty.

Raven is the messenger that carries all energy flows of ceremonial magic between the ceremony itself and the intended destination. Four instance, if a ceremony is being performed to send energy to a disaster area where people need courage and strength, Raven would be the courier for that energy flow. The intention could be to allow the people of the devastated area to feel the concern and support of the participants in that ceremony.

If you have chosen Raven, magic is in the air. Do not try to figure it out, you cannot. It is the power of the unknown at work, and something special is about to happen, the deeper mystery, however, is how you will respond to this sparkling synchronicity of this alchemical moment. Will you recognize it and use it to further enhance your growth question mark or will you limit the power of the great mystery by explaining it away?

It may be time to call Raven is a carrier to carry an intention, some healing energy, a thought, or a message. Raven is the patron of smoke signals or spirit messages represented by smoke. So if you want to send a message to the blue road of spirit, in order to contact the ancients, call Raven. Or, who knows, the ancients may be calling you.

Remember, this magic moment came from the void of darkness, and the challenge is to bring it to light. In doing so you will have honored the magician within.

  3. Thanks for sharing your dreams Mike. I am especially interested in this subject and would like to know if you have any experience with lucid dreaming. Your very intense, complex synchronicities seem an awful lot like lucidity cues to me.

Had another owl sighting that puzzled me a couple of weeks ago. It was crouched in the grass with wings spread around 3:00pm on a hot Sunday afternoon. Seriously, it was over 100 degrees at that time of day and it appeared to be sunning itself. It hung out for awhile and then flew away. The person that owns the house says she never sees them except when I'm around. :)

  4. "Anything is one of a million paths. Therefore you must always keep in mind that a path is only a path; if you feel you should not follow it, you must not stay with it under any conditions.

To have such clarity you must lead a disciplined life. Only then will you know that any path is only a path and there is no affront, to oneself or to others, in dropping it if that is what your heart tells you to do. But your decision to keep on the path or to leave it must be free of fear or ambition.

I warn you. Look at every path closely and deliberately. Try it as many times as you think necessary.

This question is one that only a very old man asks. Does this path have a heart? All paths are the same: they lead nowhere. They are paths going through the bush, or into the bush. In my own life I could say I have traversed long long paths, but I am not anywhere.

Does this path have a heart? If it does, the path is good; if it doesn't, it is of no use. Both paths lead nowhere; but one has a heart, the other doesn't.

One makes for a joyful journey; as long as you follow it, you are one with it. The other will make you curse your life. One makes you strong; the other weakens you."

Carlos CastaƱeda. "The Teachings of Don Juan"

PS: In that first book, Don Juan tells Carlos that he's a crow, meaning he has the ability to turn into that bird. And he teaches Carlos how to turn his body into that of a crow.

  5. RPJ:

I have used that quote extensively for over a decade. I read it aloud to my students on the outdoor courses. But, I had found an abridged version, and used that.

(I read it in the interview with Sesh Heri)

This is the first time I ever actually read the whole thing (except when I read the book, eons ago.)

    Huge thanks.

This quote comes at an important moment.

  6. Crows are an integral part of my life and one of my favorite birds.
I call them my cosmic roosters, because at sunrise their beautiful (to me anyway) chorus of song wakes me (unless I get up before sunrise) to a new day.
I guess that's way better than waking up to Sonny and Cher's
    "I Got You Babe" .-)

  7. "If men had wings and bore black feathers, few of them would be clever enough to be crows."

  8. The font is the key. Helvetica is meant to be a font clearly read and universally understood, devoid of flourish or ego. Likewise the raven or crow, a black bird, devoid of beauty, a pure Mercuric messenger of the Id. The message is to follow your heart. Always a good message, but I think, one especially important right now.

  9. Mike,
I found an interesting You Tube lecture by a psychologist who has written a book on synchronicity.
There are some really good points he brings up in it,but there are also quite a few things I would find hard to agree with him on,as I'm sure you would too.
Still he does mention towards the end how he used to see a lot of owls, and I think he said he was a Shaman, which I found a bit hard to believe,if that's what he did say.
He doesn't seem to believe in aliens, but to tell the truth,I don't know what his beliefs are.
Interesting talk, but ultimately confusing as to where he was coming from.
I think he is still stuck in the mirror maze he talked about getting stuck in at the end of the talk.
Still I think you will find parts of this talk intriguing, and parts wrong or confusing.Good to see shinks tackling synchronicity in a half decent way though.
