Alexander Clelland
1926 - 2012
My Father died on May 29th due to complications from a stroke, he was 85 years old. My Dad lived a rich full life, but his last few years were difficult because of challenging health issues. For me, this was not a sad event.
After hearing the news of his passing, I traveled to north Carolina to help with the funeral. My parents lived near my sister's home in an assisted living community.
As a family we worked hard to make the service something uplifting and inspiring. We had a bagpiper to play Scotland the Brave and Amazing Grace. We also had two members of the military at the funeral to fold a flag and present it to my mother. This was in recognition of my Dad's service in the Navy in the South Pacific in WWII.
The symbol of the Holy Spirit
I drove to the funeral with my sister. When we arrived at the chapel a mourning dove flew across our path, directly in front of the windshield. I whispered, "A dove."
It was the only bird to pass that close to me in the full 8-days I spent with my family (Please know, I pay attention to this kind of stuff).
Shortly after we parked, I went back to her car to get something for the service, and there was a mourning dove on the trunk of the car parked right next my sister's. It sat there staring at me, close enough to touch. It might have been the same one that crossed our path just minutes earlier. I spoke to the bird, telling it that I was very aware of it's message, and what it meant. Even it's name, mourning, was resonant.

Of note, I went back to my sister's car to get a small table that would hold my father's ashes.
His funeral was on June 5th, this was also the day of the Transit of Venus across the Sun. My father and I also shared the same birthday.

Mike,
ReplyDeleteIt sounded like a magical event. I hope you are doing well. He may visit you in dreams.
Mike, another poignant message for you. You are connected to another part of this whole thing, that most do not pay any mind to. I am listening to Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" as we speak. Listen to everything that speaks to you. My connection is with music, and yours is with nature. We just all need to listen to the messages that are sent us, for us at that moment. Peace be with you.
ReplyDeleteOMG.. and the next song that is playing is Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne". WHAT???
ReplyDeleteOh and by the way, I was not listening to my own playlist. It was playing on the radio. Right as I was sending you my message. Wow.
ReplyDeleteHi Mike,
ReplyDeleteI've never commented before on your site, but I have have been listening to all your interviews for several months now - you're really doing some very fascinating & thought provoking stuff here, and with a great approach to it all. I just love your stuff.
Anyways, I felt moved to say what a lovely post, and my commiserations on your loss.
Peace & love, Manjit
My heart goes out to you Mike - all that plus your uncomfortable message this week.
ReplyDeleteMay the universe bring you the messengers you need.
I pray for your dad's safe passage to true awareness and the place of divine love.
May you feel everything my friend and know that there are others sending compassion to you on your journey.
I'm sorry to hear of your loss Mike, but here's something to cheer your spirits and make you scratch your head -
ReplyDeleteRegarding," We had a bagpiper to play Scotland the Brave and Amazing Grace" and "This was in recognition of my Dad's service in the Navy in the South Pacific in WWII" and "His funeral was on June 5th"
Scotland played my country Australia in a test match game of Rugby Union on June the 5th 2012
and beat us.This would be like the USA getting beaten in Basketball by Scotland.I could not believe they beat us...it's almost embarrassing...but at least we can blame the poor weather.-)
You might want to watch these highlights to see just how brave that Scottish win was.

And this game was played in Newcastle,Australia with the South Pacific lapping the coastline.
And in-case you missed it the first time this match took place on - June the 5th 2012.
Not only that but Scotland's Half-back was named Mike
(that's the Rugby version of a Quarterback)and Scotland kicked the winning penalty goal in the 84th minute to snatch a victory.
So by the 85th minute they were celebrating a very brave win.
I am very sorry to hear of your loss.
ReplyDeleteNice photo. He appears like an optimist —and a bit cocky— fellow ;)
ReplyDeleteRest in Peace, Mr. Clelland.
sorry to hear about your temporary separation.
ReplyDeleteR.I.P. Mr. Alexander Clelland.
ReplyDeleteThe thing with bird synchros is that it is very hard to convey the spiritual feeling they emanate towards the experiencer, let alone the WTF improbability of the timing of the bird flying into your life at that very profound moment in time to make it such an odd sync.
ReplyDeleteI have had quite a few,but to people that haven't I can only say that there is something indescribable in these encounters...you just have to be there,I guess.
Hey Mike
ReplyDeleteIn case of interest, a bird story concerning my mom's death in 2010:

Best,
Nick
Re:
ReplyDeleteThis link - (don't use it)
I cut and pasted it and my Firefox
browser came up with the message on a big red screen reading -
" Reported Attack Page"
So be careful clicking on that link.
I didn't proceed any further...which is a shame because I would have liked to read Nick's story.
Got the same warning message —Nick's MIB have moved to viral attacks methinks :P
ReplyDeleteI read Nick's post. As a Mac user, i usually ignore any kind of warning.
ReplyDeleteThe bird experience I had was something i took note of instantly.
The meaning of such appearances are difficult to truly understand. It ends up being a personal journey, and one must find their own meaning. If nothing else - pay attention.
peace to all,
Mike C
That's really weird, as Mania is a well respected site, and I've never had hassles with it. Indeed, I just now clicked on it, and didn't get an alerts from my Net protection. It opened fine in both IE and Firefox. Sorry about that, and I'll alert the Mania people to let them know.
ReplyDeleteDear Mike,
ReplyDeleteOn Tuesday I too lost a dear one, my Aunt for whom I was responsible, who had spent many years in a nursing home after a great first 90% of her life. My heart too has a hole in the middle with a great deal of celebration for her freedom surrounding it.
I send you a big hug and deep empathy.
Best wishes, Delorus
Also she was just as positive and spunky as your Dad's picture looks!
ReplyDeleteA real can do gal. Your Dad radiates the same energy in that photo.
Again, Delorus

Hi Mike, How touching, thank you so much for sharing this heartwarming event. Total Synchronicity. Love it. Also my Prayers to You and Your Father on his Journey to the Spirit World. Sue (MacLeod)
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI had an encounter with a dove as well. My most memorable friend passed away May 1st.. And a week later I was in my garage painting a portrait of him, and thinking aboit all the memories.. When I was finished I heard a strong Coo oitside. There stood one dove on the power line directly outside the garage.. It stayed there and stared at me as I stared at it and snapped pictures, before it fluttered away. I know it was him 💞
